The concept of Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) is a fairly advanced level of outsourcing the on-site logistics. The idea of this concept is that the logistic service provider who will operate the facility will also be responsible for the design and construction, whilst keeping ownership as well.

Due to the dedicated capital investment, the BOOT relationships are based on a long-term service agreement, either linked to typical depreciation periods or with the transfer commitment linked to a residual value of the facility. In addition to the general advantages of outsourcing, the concept of BOOT provides a reduction of capital commitment, a fit-for-purpose design, together with a transparent, market-competitive cost structure.
